Hi Daniel,
Thanks for the message. I was told the next release will have wi-fi and a browser with 'Lite' browsing features. I think it remains to be seen exactly what this means. I personally hope to have the update available Wednesday or Thursday.
Hope this helps!

Why cripple the browser? The local wifi connection can be set up to limit access only to specific sites.

Don't shoot the messenger!
Until i see a 'final' version i can't be 100% sure what exactly is going to be like. I can say this, i have my opinion of what i would like to see done, whether or not the management agrees is a different story.

Dear Jerry and jbk users
Just 3 small questions with the same (educational) thematic since i also want to buy the jbk.
1 When im reading an english text is there a possibility to get the german translation of a word? by the way i intendtend to buy the english version of the jbk
2 Is there a possibility to buy an english german dictionary and use it as my main dictionary instead of the oxford one ? or do i have to wait for updates?
3 Can a translation appear on the same page (on top, bottom) that im reading (like in the kindle for example) or do i have to be transfered into the dictionary?
and at the very last i would be curious to know if i could switch off the color mode in order to achieve ,if needed, a higher resolution of a picture as example
thank you in advance, and congratulations for your efforts and your very promising (at least) device. weras

Hey,
Thanks for the message! While the current versions of the jetBook Color come in English-Spanish and English-Russian we do have plans to incorporate other languages in the future. German would almost definitely be one of them. ( i hope this answers 1 and 2)
After a word is translated all you have to do is press the back key (reverse arrow) and it will bring you back exactly where you started.
The color cannot be switched off however if you are reading a book in black and white or color the resolution should be the same. In fact i saw a really good comparison of 2 devices here on mobile read http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=167778
Hope this helps!

brianbarian wrote:Hi,
I just got my Jetbook Color. How do I launch the internet browser? I expected an Opera browser as shown on the enlarged image at https://www.ectaco.com/jetBook_Color/. Also, how do I update my device on March 1st as advised on the box sticker? First impressions are good but no user manual in English and software is a bit beta-ish.
Regards,
Brian
Well,
As my jetbook has now developed a fault and is dead, I wonder when I will ever launch the browser.

Jerry wrote:They were ready to release it on Monday however i held it back because of a few issues i noticed. I believe we will be receiving the finalized version within 24 to 48 hours. It will be posted right on the website www.jetbook.net so everyone can just go on and download it.
Hello Jerry,
seems to be long 48hours... (calculate yourself from 04/10/12 10:43)
It would just be fair to get an information update from you!
At the moment my decision to purchase this product just makes me more angry from day to day.

Hi Jerry,
is there still no information about the progress of the update.
I still remember the sticker on my device and the postings in the blog, etc...

Hi Daniel,
Were still working on it all hours of the day (as you can tell).
I'm going to send another info request to the product manager to see if he is willing to make anything official. Thanks again for your patience.

Same happened to me, while i was reading a book, it stopped responding to any button/stylus. I am now waiting for RMA number. Too bad, i really liked to read outside, while trees were blossoming
So, no April 1st update, but May 1st brick to say..
Jerry, please kindly expedite the RMA process, look for email title "Re: Support query from Ectaco.com: Jetbook Color firmware 1st March" sent to support today.
Thank you!
