I transferred all of my books from the jetBook's hard drive to an SD card. I want to delete everything on the jetBook's own drive except for the Manual.
I have been able to delete most of the folders/files. However there is still one folder which cannot be deleted either by a Windows XP machine or a Ubuntu machine.
The folder has somehow renamed itself < 553741206 > and there is now no file contained within it.
This folder is in the number 2 position in my Books folder; in the number 1 position is a folder named < . Trash-1000 >. There is nothing contained within that folder either.
Is there some way to permanently delete (or at least hide) these two folders? They are both on the jetBook's own drive, not the SD card's.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Lawrence

I had a similar problem but with files and folders on my SD card.
I just renamed the folders to "z old something" which got them at the end of the list and thus out of the way and carried on.
If the space lost on the JBL internal memory is a problem (as it isn't on a SD card) then copying the good files to a memory stick or SD card and then attempting a reformat of the USB "drive" seems the only possible suggestion.

Well, that didn't work. I tried renaming the corrupted files/folders but was unable to do so. But thanks for your reply. How would I go about reformatting the internal hard drive? I have transferred all of my books (including the one which were pre-installed) onto an SD card so, if I were to reformat the internal drive, there would be nothing lost.
However I do not want to take a chance of ruining the reader. I should hope that a reformatting would be a straightforward process.
Thanks again.

I had a similar issue and I could delete the appropriate nuisance files using a card reader with my SD card. I could not delete the nuisance files directly from my JB.
Plug your SD card in a card reader, insert into computer and delete away. Often when updating the SD card, the file folders will return and you have to delete them again.

The "nuisance files" are not on my SD card; they are in the reader's internal drive. I do not wish to have any files on the internal drive other than the manual.
It's not really a "big deal" - but I WOULD like to have a "clean" jetBook internal hard drive.
If I could reformat it in a way that would ensure that I would not be "destroying" the reader (or if there were some other and easy way to remove the corrupted "dead" folder and files), and if someone could explain IN DETAIL how to do it, well, that's what I would want!
Thanks for reading this post and for replying.

I have done it as a desperate measure and it worked.
Make a note of where you left off in each book first. Remove the SD card and plug in the reader. Right click on it in My Computer, press Properties to see what the filesystem is (I don't remember if it is FAT 16 or FAT 32). From the same location, select format using the same filesystem. After disconnecting, my reader booted fine and ALL the problematic files were gone. I think all system critical files are in the ROM (firmware).

You can only try to upgrade Jetbook to the newest version 0.33g.

Dear Phil,
I SHOULD have mentioned that I have a jetBook Lite. It is at version 0.15d which I think is the latest version.
Even when I plug my jetBook Lite into the computer and I can see what's there on its internal drive, I cannot delete (or do anything else) with that corrupted folder or the "Trash" folder.
It doesn't really make a big difference as I now have all of my books, including the ones which were pre-installed, on my 16 GB SD card. (My wife has her own card).
Nonetheless, I should like to be able to remove this corrupted folder and also the "Trash" folder if possible.
I'm sure there is a way. But I am not a "computer whiz;" I'll need detailed step-by-step instructions as to how to proceed.
Thanks for any help you can give to me.
Lawrence

The .trashxxxx file was generated by linux. It is a file similar to the "Recycle Bin" on windows. The reason it is hard to remove is that it is a linux system file and you need admin authority to remove it (IMO).
I found a similar file when I accessed my e-reader flash mem via "Files and Folders" and selecting the media - "However you have it named".
If you do not delete anything on those drives you will not create the file.
I don't know if you can change system pref to prevent this.

Trash folder cont'd.
Note: I did the same thing at first - I copied all the extra docs to an Micro SDHC card (in it's SD adapter) I labled the SD card so that it could easily be identified when the reader was plugged into the PC. I originally did the re-org via XP and did not get the Trash folder.
Later when doing some clean up work on the SD card (With the unit plugged into the PC) I used Ubuntu (Linux) and that is when it placed a trash folder on the SD card. Do not forget that when you move a file from one folder to another it does a copy first and then a delete of the file. Many new people think that a "Move" is a one step process when in fact it is a macro command.

Ectaco INC,
I tried the step-by-step instructions to no avail. The unit evidently did not upgrade (it was already at v. 0.15d) and that corrupt folder is still there.
These instructions are not as clear as you may think. For example, when inserting the SD card with the firmware upgrade files/folders, should the unit be 'on' or 'off?' (I tried it both ways but neither one worked.) And I ASSUME the three folders should be placed onto the SD card and NOT opened - but am I correct?
I think you should take another look at those instructions and try to rewrite them more clearly and completely. EVERY step, no matter how trivial-seeming, should be clearly mentioned. Remember - you are dealing with idiots (such as me!!).
Is there a way to completely reformat the jetBook Lite? I use a computer with the Ubuntu Linux operating system (v. 10

Ectaco INC,
It is formattable as an external drive in windows ... it must be through a linux as well ...
