Hello,
I'd a problem to apply the July update on my Jetbook Color.
Current OS version is 49
So, according to http://www.jetbook.net/update/jetbookcolor
I don't have to update OS...
I just need to update software
I downloaded the archive jbc-r1580-spanish.zip and unpack it.
I copied the extracted file jbcupdate.bin to a microSD-card using a card reader.
I inserted the microSD-card into the device (pins up).
In order to avoid disruptions during the upgrade, I connected my ECTACO® jetBook® COLOR to a charger.
I pressed the RESET button and hold for 5 seconds.
I see the following message
"Integrity check. Please wait..."
during some time and then I see this error message
"Update FAILED, Write error at 113:85800."
I ever send my device to Ectaco warranty support for the same kind of problem because of the previous update.
See my previous post https://www.ectaco.com/posts/list/15/79239.page
It was very expensive to do it !!!!
I don't know what to do to solve my problem.
I also had an other problem before the update : the device never stopped (the blue led is always on)
I had to stop it by switching the power on/off button...
Now the situation is worst ! ... The Jetbook don't restart (even without the micro SD card and after pressing the reboot button during 5 seconds)
I see the "Ectaco Starting..." message and a blank screen... nothing else ;-(
Please help me !
Kind regards

Hi,
Thanks for the message. I believe one of our customers got it to work by unplugging it from the charger.
-Just make sure it is 100% charged first. Do not plug it into the charger and try it.
-If it does not work, try to re-download the update and try one more time.
If it still is not working, please go into the settings > Device info and let me know:
-Serial Number
-Firmware version (all info)
Lastly, does the current version have any problems? If so what are they?

It will be difficult to say you version number as the Jetbook Color doesn't boot correctly...
What I can say you is that Ectaco support installs me latest firmware when I send them the device.
It was 1 month ago !

Hi,
-What problem was the device having before the update?
-Also, in the first email you indicated you knew the OS version, how did you find that out?
-To get the SN you can take the back cover off of the device, it will be displayed there also.
-Did you try to re-download the firmware, replace it on the SD card and attempt the update again?

Hi,
I know the OS version because I had a look at this number before applying the software version.
Now that's not possible (because of boot problem)
I can't give you the S/N now because I'm on vacation (without my Jetbook Color !)
I didn't tryed to download the firmware because I had my bags to prepare
But I will try to download again and to apply the update again when I will be less "busy"
In fact, as I said you before I had a problem some days/weeks ago...
the blue led was always on and the jetbook never stopped automatically (even after setting the appropriate
option)
Kind regards

Hi,
I'm less busy now...
I see that I'm not alone with problems after July 2012 update
https://www.ectaco.com/posts/list/83440.page
I first need to recharge JBC because there was no way to switched it off
(it was always trying to reboot - so I unplugged it and battery finally discharged)
I only see the splash screen not the OS menus.
Tomorrow I will try to format the JBC internal memory.
but I'm not sure it will works as the JBC OS doesn't seem to run...
I will try (again) to put the latest firmware
http://www.jetbook.net/update/jetbookcolor
Step 2: Update The Firmware
MD5 (jbcupdate.bin) = 956835dbd1a68096030f722a831f6d0c
(you should provide a MD5 or any hash to be sure that the downloaded file is ok)
Regards

Ok, let me know how everything works out. Most people with the issues were able to solve them with a re-format of the hard drive.

Hi,
in fact that's not so good...
in the beginning (yesterday) after a certain time the JBC switched off (displaying Big Ben)...
but now that's not the case... the blue led is always on and the JBC doesn't automatically stop !
I'm sorry ;-(
Settings / Auto power is set to 1 minute
I only change Key sound (from on to off)
and I put some books on the SD card (with my Mac) by connecting JBC to Mac
Kind regards

Hi,
Can you check if the Wi-Fi is on. It can sometimes cause the device LED to stay on and drain battery .
Also, i assume you tried a reset but i just want to make sure.
