I opened a Nookbooks acct. with Barnes and Noble yesterday. Downloaded a sample book, which book opened fine on my jb lite. The other 2 books asked for an Unlock name and Unlock code, which I understand to be the name on my credit card and the 15 digit credit card #. I tried deleting the books that won't open, loading them into Calibre, and importing them into my reader that way, then entered the info for the unlock code/name. Files won't open.

I tried re-entering my credit card # into my acct. info at B&N. Deleted the books from my Nooklibrary. Repurchased and downloaded the book into my Nook library and importing them into Calibre and transferring into my jb lite. I then entered the unlock info. File won't open. I tried the support at B&N, the person who helped me was clueless himself. Calibre won't convert the file as it is DRM'd. I have tried putting the books into the internal memory, also tried it on an SD card. Files won't open either place. I am getting frustrated

Any ideas to try would be great.

The B&N epub DRM unlock code won't work with any spaces in your name.
The Secure eReader (.pdb) accepts spaces in the name field.

Tried the name without any spaces & It worked!!!! You are awesome

Now why couldn't the Tech Support fella at B&N just tell me that? Hmm....

Thanks so much!

Almost makes you think they are trying to coerce you into buying a nook.

Thanks for picking up the question Ken!

I tried putting in my name and credit card number but my jetBook Lite ignored it. Just sat there. Any other suggestions?

Did you omit spaces between your first and last name ( the name on the credit card) and enter all digits of your CC #? Then did you press OK on your jetbook lite?

I personnaly avoid the issue altogether, but we can't talk about that.

I assume that you pressed the "OK" button afterwords?

Is this your first purchase with B&N using that particular card?

You might want to recheck how B&N has your Name, you need to match it exactly as they
have it, except that no spaces are allowed when unlocking B&N epub on the JBL.
The same for you CC number.

It's been some time since I opened any DRM infected files on my JBL, and the ones that
I kept on my SD card with DRM still open with out asking for the unlocking data again.

So there was no error message? It didn't return you to the eBooks menu page you were
on when you selected the book? It kept the Unlocking window up?

Ken

thanks, Ken, for responding. The answer is yes, it just kept the unlocking window up. So far as I know, I used the same name, and I know I used the same credit card number, and avoided spaces.
I'm at a loss.

Well, if you put something in the Name field and the same number of digits into the CC number field,
as your CC uses, then pressed the "OK" button, something should have happened.
All I can suggest is that you recheck everything and try again.

If there wasn't a different unlock data needed from your previous purchases, you wouldn't be
getting the unlock window, neither would you see it if there was no DRM on the file.

Thanks again, Ken.
I've tried every combination of my "name" that I can think of. And I know the CC is correct.
I haven't been reading my previous purchases on the jBL. This would be a first.

Could you post the result if you enter the following:

Name: JohnDoe
CC#: 1234567891234 (for how ever many numbers your CC uses)

Then the OK key.

Something should happen, you should not remain in the unlocking function.

After entering all that, I press the OK button and all of the entry disappears, but I still stay in the unlock window.

So, that is what happens when you enter the data that conforms to the entry requirements
but is not valid for the file you are trying to open. It appears to be giving you another
chance to enter the proper data. Is the cursor in the first data entry field?

You could try to enter the valid data, conforming to the format of our test, and see what
you get. Does it empty the entry fields and stay in the unlock window, as well?

If the data you believe is valid gives you the same results as our test data, then the
file might have been downloaded when different data was on file at B&N. You could
try downloading the file again. You might have to update your CC data at the B&N
site and then redownload the file.

Luck;
Ken

P.S.; Just out of curiosity, what happens if you do the test using "John Doe" in the
name field?
