My first JBL lasted 11 months, then froze as amply described throughout these forums- will not go beyond first screen, activity light stuck on, no recovery by reset/reboot, cannot reload firmware. Ectaco promptly replaced it under warranty, but the new unit they sent me lasted ONE month. This issue has been around for over a year and I would have thought that the replacement unit they sent me would have had whatever hardware update was required to keep this from happening again. How can Ectaco continue to sell these when it seems they have not addressed this very serious problem?

What do I do now? What is the warranty on the REPLACEMENT unit?

Hi,

Thanks for the question. If the device is still under warranty you can call tech support and they will be able to help you with everything.

I cannot discuss the amount of sales we get on these products per month but the warranty exchange is under 1% (Warranty returns divided by sales times 100). Sorry to hear about the difficulty with your device.

Please email [email protected] or call 718-728-3605.

Thanks Jerry. I still love the screen technology on this device, and Ectaco seems to be the only one using an advanced LCD rather than e-ink (visiplex) with the blackout at each page turn. That, along with AA batteries, is why I stick with it.

I have also considered buying a mini, but the one essential thing it lacks is a search function which I need for a large dictionary I use. Are there any plans to add a search function to these? I guess it would have to be a software interface since the mini does not have the row of keys along the right side that the JBL has.

Hey,

I have heard talk about adding it adding with a virtual keyboard however they are just talks and i didn't get any info on official release of anything.

I think a big hit would be a jetBook Mini with ADE DRM support but i was told the CPU inside cant handle the ADE software. Its a drawback of the tremendous battery life. I personally would like to see the jetBook Mini, at $129.95 with the same software and support as the JBL.

I like the idea of our new jetBook + however it does not have the replaceable batteries which i feel is a big selling point for allot of customers.

Hope this helps!
