yesterday i received my franklin via fedex and just like a child, i could not wait to get started. i followed all the instructions in the quick start guide to the letter to the point where my computer told me that files were needed - ebookman.sys on install disk is needed. in the box underneath is c:\windows and when i click ok nothing happens. where would i find the files that the system is asking for? is it worth uninstalling the programme and beginning all over again? or is it a case of drivers not being loaded from my installation disk?

i would really appreciate an early reply as i can o longer read my books and i have been looking forward to this for some time.

Natalia, the drivers for XP are available and already on your PC. It sounds like the drivers for the USB port must be re-installed through the use of the Windows Device Manager. To access the Device Manager, right click on My Computer, click on Manage and click on Device Manager. If none of the devices listed in that screen refer directly to eBookMan, click on "Other Devices" for information regarding the USB port/eBookMan. Double-click on this item, and click on the "Driver" tab. Click on the "Update Driver" button, and follow the instructions offered in the "Update Driver" wizard. If asked to specify a location for the driver, point to C:\program files\Franklin Electronic Publishers\eBookMan Desktop Manager\usbdriver. You may be prompted again to put in the installation disk.

If you get this message, click on Browse and point to the folder listed above. If the installation is successful, you'll see a green line connecting the pictures of eBookMan and the PC the next time you open the eBookMan Desktop Manager software.

hi paul, we have a saying on this side of the big puddle which is - are you sitting comfortably, let me tell you a story.

the intrepid margaret decided to follow your advice and i got nowhere on my desktop, as you said the drivers had been inadvertantly deleted. however, and it was a big however, i tried the download on my laptop and guess what? it worked!!

having got this far i was not about to give up so i spent 3 days trying to get a book on to my reader. try as i might nothing happened.

this morning i did manage to synchronise my laptop to the book reader and hey presto i have a book on the franklin. hooray, yippee and all that. ask me how i did it and i couldn;t tell you.

being serious for a moent i would like to say many thanks for your assistance. havew a lovely day.
