ET800 Cant use in daylight

I recently purchased a Partner ET800 (Turkish). I found the device to work very well inside my home in the UK. However it was purchased for use in Turkey where I am now and I cannot use the device in the open air!!!! The device does not seem to have a brightness or backlight facility, only a contrast setting which makes no difference in the open air. The screen cannot be viewed at all when outside.
Am I missing something here? If the device cannot be used outside then then it represents (As far as I am concerned) a total waste of money as the translator was purchased to be used principally in the open air when out and about.

The device has a backlight.

It is true that it is hard to recognize text under direct sun beams. This is also true for a majority of electronic devices that have a screen.

Let me give you an advice - try to avoid direct sun shining onto a display of your device and change its position in space while you are outside.
