Hi
I am having lots of problems with new jetbook mini.
1. It use to corrupt the sd cards so all data is lost ( I have test with two that are working fine with other devices like my old regular jetbook) this happened sometimes while opening a book
2. fb2 book can not be read from main memory (by the way, just 1,5 mb of main memory ?)
3. you can chose codification UTF-8 in device, but later, when a book is open, you have to change to another codification and again UTF-8 if you whant to see Spanish characters like ñ or accent. (this happened with txt)
4. I have been not able to open any fb2 file and it takes a lot of time trying, hang during it or stop recognizing the sd card while formatting the book.
If I can get one open just have 1 or two pages. (they open find from my regular jetbook so I am using Calibre on the right way)
Firmware version is 0.2.0
I use win 7
Any help ?
Regards

Hey,
Thanks for the question
1)When you say it corrupts the SD card you mean it just deletes all you books on the card or does the card become unusable in other devices?
2) FB2 should read of of main memory. Did you try more then one book?
3) So you have to change coding both in setting and in the book for it to work? (txt format)
4)I suppose this sort of answers my question number two, but just to make sure i have it correct. It will not read any FB2. you tried many different FB2 both on the SD card as well as the hard drive. Is that correct?
Please let me know so i can help you out better. Thanks!

Hi Jerry.
1. I when the SD Card get corrupt I have to format them and in some cases low format to get they work again.
2. I have try some but the device just do not see the files.
3. I change general configuration to UTF8. Then upload a txt book to the device and try to open it. Spanish characters do not show. Then change encoding of the book to any other and again to UTF8 and it works fines
4. As I wrote, FB2 books in main memory can not be seen by the device.
FB2 from SD cards can not be read because the device do not work well with my SD cards.
I have been talk that there is some kind of problem with no Samsung controllers SD cards. Please can you confirm this ?
Regards
Sergio

Hi Sergio,
Thank you for your patience, i have been informed that we will be releasing a firmware update within the next 7 days that should fix some of these problems. Please give me just a bit more information so i can help.
1) Which name brand of SD card are you using?
2) What is the size of the SD card?
3) What is the size of the FB2 book you are trying?

Hi Jerry,
I have get a Samsung SD card and it works ok with it but I could not get the jetbook working with kingston SD cards or OEM cards ( I have try 3 1 and 2 gigas FAT and FAT32)
I have upgrade to 0.2.4 firmware but the problems with some SD cards is still there.
With the Samsung SD now I could finally open a FB2 book.
From main memory, I have still the same problem, but thinking that 1 mb book has to be turn into TX2 book 1mb more there is not enough memory.
The problem opening txt files is still the same. You have to change encoding twice to take effect.
I hope next firmware version solve all problems with SD cards, the rest (txt problem) is just a small bug.
Regards
Sergio

Hey,
I just got a response today, currently the jetBook Mini do not have compatibility with Kingston and Scandisc SD cards for some reason. We are working on fixing it now and it will be available in the next update.
Also i was told that some books have a local setting for encoding. This means the book has attached something that tells the device the a certain encoding. Although it is rare we are collecting some books with this problem and trying to fix them. If you like you can send your Spanish book in to us and we can check it out. If this is what you would like to do please let me know, or PM me for an email address. Thanks!

Whenever I hook-up the Mini with the cable, it freezes. No ifs, no buts, it just freezes on me.
This time, it corrupted the memory, so all the books that shipped with the mini got corrupted and deleted.
As a side effect of this (I think) the Mini now does not recognize me putting an SD card in! So no access to any more books.
So, I have a sitting eBook I can use as... paperweight. Need to love the irony.
Im not sure how to go from here. It's not like I can do the firmware update, is it?
Any hint?

Update: Seems that if I plug-in the cable and choose "Intern memory" then nothing happens, but at least it doesnt freeze. Note that I do NOT have access to the internal memory that way.
Although, If if turn the power off then On again while plugged, the SD icon appears, yai!
Once the Icon appears, I can choose "memory card" with no effect. But if I choose "Internal" again (with the SD icon this time) it freezes again... arg.

Update2: Removing the battery seemed to have 'fixed' the new issues.
The firmware updates will hopefully fix the others.

Tarko,
are you using rechargeable batteries?
It seems that jetbook devices can't guess the correct charge of rechargeable batteries.
When I use them with my JBL and they are low in charge odd behaviour appears (turning off, pages disappear, returning to main menu when I change pages...). And all this happens with two off four bars in the battery icon.
In fact, I never got a low battery alert when using rechargeables. The odd behaviour is the indicator :/

jerry,
about card brand incompatibilities: SD cards have a 512 bytes sector *but* 2GB report 1024 bytes sector that are used only by the card reader to calculate the correct size of the card. All read/write operations should use 512 bytes sector.
Adding to that equation that cards are available pre-formated and can use formats as FAT, FAT16 or FAT32, maybe that is the answer for your SD card problems.

I am using the batteries provided with the Mini. I have done roughly 5hours of reading with them, hopefully nowhere near enough to have the condition you were describing with low battery.
I am unable to experiment with the FAT formatting of the SD card right now, but you are bringing a good point. Im pretty sure I formatted mine as Fat32, maybe the error springs from there.
But first thing first: firmware update.
(When I DO access a book on my SD card, it closes after 3seconds)

Firmware upgraded, nothing changed.
When I open an eBook (.txt) from my SD, it closes within seconds.
Any idea? Because now my Mini is useless.

That ebook that you are trying to read, they have parenthesis as part of the name?
In Jetbook normal if the file name has a "(" or ")" the device freezes.
To solve the problem I had to rename all files.
