I recently purchased Lingsoft Russian<>English talking dictionary, and the associated Flashcard program as my wife and myself are studying Russian. I was happy to see Flashcards builder 2006 available, So I downloaded it and installed. However it will only contruct a database with one or two lines (one or two cards) after that it will crash every time. Any Clues? I have saved in Unicode format and used Tabs as my delimeters. Using Windows XP and Flashcards builder 2006 Ver. 1.3.18. I have reinstalled 3 times but with the same result. I need to make hundreds of flashcards not one or two. Any clues at why the crashes.
Walt

Hi Walt,
please try to fill all the fields in the database:
lang1, lang2, POFS, comment1, comment2
(comments should be filled with spaces)
its easy to make in excel sheet
update will be available by the end of this year with the new versions of flashcards program (FlashCards 2007)

Hi Kate,
Thanks for your timely response.
I have tried your suggestion and the Excel approach but to no avail. Fails everytime to build a database if there is more than one line of data. I will often get a message that says data is missing in english field of line 6 when in fact the data is there. It alway looks good in the format window, and I have tired of trying different combinations. Must be something peculiar to my machine. I won't spend any more time on this but will in fact wait for a new version. Thanks again.

I have exactly the same problem with FlashCards Builder.
I cannot import from excel or text delimted files. The program crashes and claim empty fields.
This is exremely frustrating as the Indonesian - English dictionary is not very good and I would like to use my own.
Regards

Hi
I have the same problems making a pdb file. The program always stops with an error message.
I tried all possibilities from EXCEL as well as with text.
Software, even if this is without costs should be approved and tested before released.
Unfortunaletly the PDB format Lingvosoft is using is unique and there are no other Text to pdb converters on the market which are compatible to the lingvosoft-format.
The french-german flaschcards are full of errors and misunderstandings so tey urgently need to be updated.
I would offer my help to the software house to correct the errors and find the right translation. To do so it would also be very nice to have an opportunity to edit and correct the internal dictionary.

yesterday night I found a old version from may 2005 which converts only text files. it works after I spent hours and hours to find out why the newest version does not work.
My suggestion: get the old version and you do not have problems.
I hope to get a working version from lingvosoft in the future.
It is a bit strange that a software was published, even if it is delivered without costs, which does not work at all. The magic word: "Quality assurance"
regards
Alfred

I'm having the same problem, and unfortunately it may make the difference between me purchasing the other software or not. I need to be able to reliably and simply build my own databases. Will the updated (hopefully fixed) version be available quite soon?

Dear All,
I have the same problem and searched for an older version as suggested in one of the reactions. This seems to work (although excel is not supported). However by copying everything in the clipboard it seems to work (at least with 100 lines).
So till Lingvosoft has corrected the problems you can use:
version 1.2.2.... which can be found at
http://www.newfreedownloads.com/transfer-LingvoSoft-FlashCards-Builder.html

Thanks Alfred and fpadt for posting about the previous version - had been driving me nuts last week as I tried to convert my own word tests into pdb format. Old version worked a treat first time.
Cheers
Dave

Dear all,
After a short email communication with the lingvosoft team they provided me within 2 days a link to the new flashcard builder which supports Excel!! Great work!
I tested it and it works just as we want to. So forget the old flashcard builder program and use this one!!

Kind regards,
