I don't know...
It is mildly annoying to have to switch fonts, but I still find the JetBook Lite to be a pretty good reading experience.
And if they get that last bug worked out, the only problem will be that I have to enter my code for each book individually for my pdb/eReader books. Which I hope they will fix as well..

Yeah, I like mine too, and am willing to wait awhile for the next patch. I even took my JBL to work today and showed it off, and I think a couple people there are going to get one...

Same here... Quite a number of people are surprised to learn that there are alternatives to the Kindle and the Nook (if they have heard of the Nook...)

A lot of people are starting to get interested in ereaders - leastwise where I'm at and the people I know. Yesterday after showing off my JBL someone mentioned the rumors of Apple's new tablet that was in the news - which sparked a discussion as to if it could be used as an ereader too - one with a full color screen. A lot of people were interested in that.

Sorry, I am from the school of buying a product to fit my life, not adjusting my life to fit the product.
If the caveat to buying a product which is under priced as compared to its peers is buggy software, poor documentation, and wait and see if we can fix the problem "this time", well I think this should have been spelled out in the beginning. The technology is new, but not that new. Somehow I have the feeling that if this was any other household device forgiveness would not come so easy.
Readers Digest version: You (ECTACO) told me the fix would be out this week. Now we see that their is no definitive date in sight. However my window of return is shrinking. Pure economics. Am I bitter? Yes my Christmas Day expectations were high. But now into the new year without what I would call a 100% functioning unit, I see that little square box has turned into a lump of coal.

I fully sympathize with everyone who wants to read the latest DRM material while Ectaco seems to be doing much of their development work post-sales (but Microsoft has been doing this for years-no good OS until service pack 2 and maybe never).
But I have to say that there are many people out there who could never justify spending $300 for a book reader due to income limitations or because it puts you in the fully functional Net-Book PC price range.
I think Ectaco set many priorities right- a very good screen, AA batteries with no service headaches down the road, and an initial bias toward public domain (free) books. Like Gutenberg, they are helping to open the minds of a lot of people who might not otherwise have had the opportunity. Take a look at ManyBooks.com's list of 100 books you must read before you die (all free)- a few of those will keep you busy until Ectaco gets this DRM nonsense straightened out. But I do agree it is disappointing.

I agree with everything you wrote. And the above is what I'm doing, I've found about a dozen books on the P.G. site in the html format that I want to read (well, reread - I read many of them back in the days when I was in grade school, we had some really old books in the library of the school I went to). Plus, I've been reading a few of the classics that came with the unit. So I'm good till all the bugs get worked out with the one DRM book format. And if that doesn't happen, well - then I'll worry about finding a replacement, maybe by then some of other brands of ereaders will be working 100% too..

Unfortunately, new Firmware update will be released later than it was supposed to due to technical circumstances.
We will do our best to make updates available as soon as possible.
Best Regards,

Ectaco INC,
Pavel,
Is it at all realistic to expect a firmware update for the Jetbook Lite within a week to address the pdb formatting bug and the issue with having to reenter the unlock info for every DRMed pdb?
If not, I will need to ask for an RMA since that will be about the end of my return period.
Like many others, I am very unhappy to have been misled by Ectaco. I purchased this device because it was advertised as being able to read pdbs. Have you by any chance heard of false advertising? That's an actionable offense.

I just purchased another book from Barnes & Noble and I did not have to reenter my name and credit card to read it. ON this one I do have a problem reading it. I am losing the last 2 lines the same as everyone else. I did a lot of research before I bought the jetBook Lite and this is the only one that uses common batteries and it has enough formats to read more books than I can ever read. Even with the problem with pbd format.

This is thirdhand, BUT
According to a post at Mobileread,
I just heard from tech support that the devices being sold at CES have v0.15 for the lite pre-installed, and the regular Jetbook has the v0.34c pre-installed (as mentioned earlier on the forums here). They will both be released next week once everyone gets back from CES (no date mentioned, but I'd guess the 11th or 12th).
[...]
** Current word is, v0.15 fixes the missing words/text, and v0.34c adds DRM capabilities to the regular Jetbook. So to me it looks like if we're all just a bit more patient, we'll all be happy campers sometime early next week .

I can confirm that the reenter name and credit card problem has been fixed for Secure eReader (DRM) ebooks, in my case from Fictionwise.
firmware v0.14n patch hv15
As noted, PDBs (ie eReader), DRM or not often fail to display the last line on odd numbered pages. If you really really need to see that line, changing the font size (very slow) will reformat & change the pagination.

The link to V.15 firmware for the lite can be found at
ftp://custftp:[email protected]/Lite_0.15.exe
The following quote should address questions on what the patch does. How to install can be found throughout the forum
"Current version 0.15 supports all books on www.ereader.com and all PDB-books. All books at www.barnesandnobel.com are available in PDB format. So You can easily download any ebook from the most popular book store in the USA – Barnes and Nobel. "
Sadly I had to jump ship and go with another competitor that was ready for primetime. JeaPea again your the best.

I just bought a Jetbook Lite from Amazon. Has anyone heard whether the products they are selling have the new firmware? I bought a book from B&N and can't open it because it asks for a password. I have read here that some people have been able to use their credit card prefaced by their name but I can't figure out how to enter text. Can someone help me, please?
