My Jetbook intermittantly seems to have problems booting, most often, after I have added new data. It flickers, starts to boot, I see the screen with the battery and then it goes off. It may take up to 10 tries to get it to start or a reset. Then it will behave flawlessly until next data transfer. Also, I"m getting a frozen windows now and again after tranferring a novel. I must unplug from the usb to unfreeze.
I've had two Jetbooks, the first(9 months old) had to be returned to Ectaco when it could not be recognized by my computer. I've got to compliment the staff and techs on helping me try everything prior to returning and then a very gracious offer to replace which they did promptly. Thankyou! This unit behaved in the same manner, being very hard to boot without a reset..
Could it be my SD card? I hate to eliminate it, as I keep a few large audio files on it. Thanks for your help

Hey,

Thanks for the question! Please let me know the following and i will try and help.

1) When you add data is it directly to the jetBook HD or the an SD card?
2) Does a "reset" ever help the problem?
3) Which firmware version do you have? Go to settings, system settings and then firmware version.
4) What size and namebrand is your SD card?

It could be the card but I'm not sure, you may need a different format, size card or namebrand. Let me know and i will pass along the info to tech support!

1)I usually add data through the USB cable. When I transfer from cardslot of my computer, I always must use the reset for the data to be seen.
2) Reset always resolves the problems
3)I'm on 35A
4) I'm using a 2g Kingston Data card.

As I said before, after adding books whether to the SD card or to the unit, is when this problem occurs. Any other start ups are fine. The problems with my computer freezing are new and it's happening on more than one compu

Hey,

So the problem has gotten worse and now the jetBook will not even boot past the jetBook screen?

Try removing the SD card from the device and pressing the reset button. Will it boot now?

I will let you know what to do from there. Thank you for your patience.

Hi,

So i noticed from your post on the other thread that the device will not go past the "jetBook" screen. Please let me know.

1) Does your PC recognize the jetBook?
2) Does a reset help?
3) Take the SD card out. Reset. Does this work?
4) Can you enter the firmware screen at all?
5) Can you enter the diagnostics screen? (reset. Then hold on/off, zoom and menu simultaneously. When you see the jetBook screen let go on On/Off. When you see a #16 screen release zoom and Menu.)

I will be able to help you out as best i can based on the answers.

I have almost similar problem with Pwild. I have looked and tried all Jerry's suggestion with no success. My Jetbook - lite is 2 day old and I am stuck at the booting screen. the reset button helps with 2 times but not helping any longer, I only use it to turn off the power of the book. Is there a different suggestion or method to can save my book. Thanks.

Hey,

I believe we are speaking via email also. As i recommended via email please try this.

1) Back up all your books, music etc as they will be erased from the device and sd card.
2) Go into the diagnostics screen
3) Perform #13 which is reflash NOR. Again the SD card must be in.
4) When this is completed press the back button so your back at the 1-16 screen
5) Then perform #7 which is restore factory defaults.
6) After this is does press the reset button.
7) Try and add your books and see if you encounter the same difficulty.

Let me know if it works!

Hi, I did all of that and could not run the norflash utility. I got a "file missing, hit escape" message each time.
I ran the checksum test and it failed the first. Got a box with an X.
Checked the SD card and it was fine.
Next time was not able to get to diagnostic screen. It froze. Re set fixed it on third try. I'm afraid to try again. It does freeze as does my windows XP or 7 on office computer each time hooked up with USB cable. Getting more and more frustrated as I have a gift cetificate from Barnes and Noble and now am worried my Jetbook is truly ill and I'm dreading being without it.Thanks for your help..Priscilla

Hey,

It is seeming more like a hardware malfunction. I would recommend sending it in under warranty for replacement. Please contact tech support and they can issue an RMA for this. The number there is 718-728-3605 or you can email [email protected]

Please make sure you have your order number or proof of purchase.

Hope this helps!
