Jerry,
Please respond to this with a clear, concise, step-by-step instruction for reading each format on a jetBook Lite.
I know that there are bits and pieces of instructions around on the forum, but sometimes they are obscure or even contradictory. Often they are not at all clear.
Unless there is a set of such instructions I cannot in good conscience recommend the jBL to any of my friends.

Hey,

Thanks for the question, however i am not sure if u understand it correctly. Do you want a list of formats the jetBook Lite can read?

To read any format on the jetBook Lite all you have to do is transfer the file to the jetBook. Do you need instructions for transferring a file to the jetBook Lite?

Please let me know and i will help out as best i can.

A list of compatible formats would be great, for a start.
But I'm afraid it is not correct to say that all that is necessary is to transfer the file to the jetBook-Lite and it can be read. Just go through the forum posts and see where so many people are finding it impossible to read some files on their jB-L.
In one post you said, "Please note the jetBook can not play books from Amazon."
A customer said, "I have an Amazon account, a Barnes & Noble account, as well as Chicago Public Library, all of which I read on my laptop.
I have tried several times to download something to the JETBOOK, but always end up frustrated in my failures."
I have trouble with Borders ebooks and most library

For any technical or mechancial device there is some need to come to
grips with the basic technical concepts involved. One of the best things
about the Jetbooks are their simplicity and ease of use. But the consumer
needs to understand what is being offered when they buy eBooks. For
the most part those selling eBooks want their customers to be able to
use their products and provide information on the formats that they
sell.

That said, you have to understand what DRM means and how its use
effects your ability to read an eBook on any devices but those that the
seller of the eBook lists as compatable. The format of an eBook may be
compatible with your device but if the DRM is not also supported by the
device the file can't be read on the device. (Unless you remove the DRM)

The JBL is possibly the only ereader that supports the three major DRM
scams, with the current 0.16e firmware. Amazon's proprietary DRM is
not supported but ADE epub&pdf, B&N epub, and the Se

Thanks Ken, for the info. But I am still looking for a step-by-step instruction for reading the different formats.

Hey,

Ken, quite elegantly put! I will have to refer people to your post for certain questions!

Please see below for a list (i prepared just now) of comparable formats. Please comment on them if you can guys so make sure i got it 100% right. I know allot has changed so i may be off in some points.

1) ADE ePub. (Shows up as an .ascm file and ADE must be used as a PC interface. Cant just drag and drop.) Install ADE here. http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/" target="_new" rel="nofollow"> http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/
2) ADE pdf. Same as above.
3) DRM ePub. From B&N. Usually must enter CC info for you to open a book. Name on CC without spaces and then CC number after.
4) DRM .PDB aka eReader from Fictionwise.
5) Non-DRM .PRC
6) Non-DRM Mobi
7) RTF
8) TXT
9) PDF
10) FB2
11) JPG
12) GIF
13) PNG
14) BMP

-All ADE files you must download the ADE software for your computer.
-All DRM books require CC name and number to unlock.
-Most others are just drag from the computer and drop to the "Books folder" o

I would add simple "HTML" to your list.

HTML has grown and includes support for all the things you see on
web sites, but it still can function very well as an eBook, without having
implemented all the fancy stuff that a web site can do that a Jetbook
can't.

I find it especially good for large manuals, on my JBL.

The JBL seems to handle all the HTML functions needed for a good
eBook. I don't think it can handle embedded fonts or internal links yet,
but maybe some day.

Luck;
Ken

The sites that offer eBooks offer that instruction for the books they sell.
The process is not any different for the Jetbooks than for any other
ereading device.

Thanks, again, Ken, but I am unable to find instructions for reading DRM books from Fictionwise, for example, on the jB-L. Could you direct me to the proper web page?

Here's an example of what I consider NOT to be a step-by-step instruction:

"3) DRM ePub. From B&N. Usually must enter CC info for you to open a book. Name on CC without spaces and then CC number after. "

This instruction does not tell me where or how to "enter CC info", whatever that is.

You could start with the "Help" tab on Fictionwise's home page then
select the "Installing and using Adobe Digital Editions" option.

I have written a number of posts over at "MobileRead Forums" in their
Ectaco jetBook forum that address the process in detail. Most are written
to address poster's specific problems, but the process to enable an SD
Card to appear as your JBL and the benefit of that approach are presented
in detail.

B&N and Secure eReader are simpler to use than ADE.

You just copy the .epub or .pdb file to your JBL, or better, an SD card
and when you first open the ebook, you will see a box popup to enter
the unlocking data. That is: your name as it is on your Credit Card (CC)
and the CC number. For B&N ePub the name can contain no spaces.

Once you have done so for a format, the JBL will remember the unlocking
data for all future eBooks, of that format, that use the same unlocking
data. So you won't have to enter the data again for books purchased
with the same CC.

Luck;
Ken
