It's nice to see that ePub embedded fonts seems to be working in 16e. I can get external fonts from an HTML document, but so far have been unable to get an ePub working with external fonts. No, I didn't "root" the device or hack into it. No, the fonts aren't stored in internal memory.
Any suggestions?

Hey,
Thanks for the question! What do you mean by "external fonts"? Are these fonts on the html file itself?
Please let me know so i can ask the tech about this.

Embedded means in the file, as embedded fonts in pdf are in the pdf file. In ePub, embedded means the font file is inside the ePub package. External fonts means that the font, usually in its own folder, in in a separate place, not in the pdf file, not in the ePub package nor "in" the html, but certainly the html, ePub package, etc, would have to "point to" that font. Again,, since embedded ePub and external html seem to work, I just thought maybe I was doing something wrong not to be able to get external fonts with ePub to work. On the other hand, maybe they just don't work, and it's not me. I'll keep on trying.

Hey,
Thanks fort he question, i would think if they work for the ePub we should also have support for the html file as well. Did you try a bunch of different HTML files all with the same result?
Please let me know so i can write to the tech and development team about this.

You misunderstood my question.
They work for HTML files
They work for embedded in ePub files
I can't get them to work with external with ePub files, but I will try again.

Hey,
My mistake! ( i really need to get the tech support on here)
So i external fonts for HTML documents work. However external fonts for ePub do not work.
I understand the external font would be a file that is not embedded in a certain book, would they be a specific format? For HTML do they always have to be within the same folder of the book.
Please let me know so i can properly describe the symptom to our tech. Thanks!

I don't understand where you are getting the format files from or how they are supposed to link to the .epub.
I understand an HTML file is sometimes more then one file with links to other sources. However i don't think the ePub would work the same way.
Do you have a file of other formats you are attempting to get working with an ePub file?

OK, let me stick my nose in for a minute.
As you apparently know, .epub files are zipped HTML files & folders.
You should be able to unzip the .epub file and work on it as an HTML
structure, then rezip the HTML files & folders back into an .epub ( or
have Calibre do it). Any references you use in the HTML structure must
not try to access data that is not resident to the structure in the zip file.
There are also probably restrictions to the type of fonts that would be
usable. Your downloaded "TrueType" font might not work with the JBL,
in any case. The font sets of various sizes could also be an issue.
The main thing I would suggest you keep in mind is that the JBL is not
designed to display web pages. It runs on a 200mHz ARM9 CPU to
conserve power and meets all ereader requirements but not netbook
or laptop levels of performace. Its not going to be able to do all the
things possible with HTML. e

Yes, Ken, thank you for sticking your nose in.
I simply meant that the font files that I was using were obtained by simply searching the web for free, usable, utf fonts, such as DejaVu or any number of others.
I did not mean I was trying to use my Jetbook Lite to surf the web.
As for html files, why not go to Project Gutenberg and get any number of free books in html format? Duh. I got them in html format because I figured they would be easier to play around with to see if I could get fonts to display them correctly (like polytonic Greek, etc). I figured it would be easier (and it WAS) than using simple text files.
Thanks for your kind assistance.

Then you see that if you can do it in HTML, you should be able to do it
in ePub once you unzip the ePub and as long as you stay within the
constraints I mentioned. In fact the Adobe Reader Mobile should be able
to handle a little more than the builtin JBL reader, in terms of the HTML
within

As I originally posted, I have and can use embedded fonts in ePub files.
As for external fonts in HTML, I guess I can't do that. It appears that the html (and text files) simply access system fonts. BUT, the system font now seems capable of displaying monotonic (single accent) Greek, while in the past, it could not display the accented characters.
I am interested in polytonic Greek for Classical and Biblical Greek purposes, so will use embedded fonts in pdf and ePub.
Don't know what's up with the system fonts, but there is another thread about that.
