1.) Does the normal jetBook support the Barnes and Nobles DRMed ePub ebooks?
2.) Should I install a B&N application to download ebooks from thei web-site?
3.) How can I know (before buying the books) if they are available in ePub and not in pdb?

Hey,
Thanks for the questions!
1) Yes with the newest firmware update it does. You can download it here. https://www.ectaco.com/ectaco-posts/list/19980.page
2) You don't need to, only with Adobe Digital Editions books (ADE) These can be ePub or PDF files.
3) Usually the book will say, i believe all books on the B&N website are in ePub but i am not 100% positive. Also the jetBook (regular) does not play .pdb files as far as i understand.
Hope this helps!

None of the books I looked at tonight on Barnes and Noble say whether they are epub or pdb. Under "format" it just says "ebook". I downloaded some samples and they were all pdb files.
I also purchased a book,

Well, I bought only a single book, recently, and it was ePub. When did you buy it?

A couple of hours ago. Have you found any way to tell the file type in advance of purchase?

No I thought they switched to ePub for all ebooks, but clearly I was wrong. This is very bad, we should know in advance what we are buying.

Would you mind telling me the title you purchased? I would like to see if the sample is epub as well. My email is my screen name @mac.com if you prefer.

Hey Jerry,
alexdupre emailed me the title and although his purchase was an epub the book sample is still a pdb file. So as far as we know there is no way to tell whether a B&N title will download as epub or pdb, that is, readable on the jetBook or not.
I do hope you will have some good news about future jetBook B&N drmed pdb support.

Hey,
Thanks for the question! That is really odd i, and well as many others was under the impression B&N books would only available in ePub format.
I remember a big problem with this because JBL used to play PDB but not ePub and when it switched over it was chaos. Soooo many calls about not being able to play B&N books any more.
I can ask about this but maybe a message to B&N support might be in order.
Hope this helps.

That's basically similar to what B&N handed me a couple of months ago.
Although the "may be proprietary" line is new to me. The sad fact is that
CS Reps (sorry Jerry) are raised like mushrooms and can only despense
to us the same material they are fed.

It is true! We are the messengers or middle men between the company and the customer. It is so unusual that they cant disclose that information i feel like people will be hesitant to buy B&N books not knowing what they are getting.
