A fellow poster over at the "MobileRead Forums" "Jetbook" forum;
raised an interesting question that maybe your tech or development
guys can shed some light on. Most of us are using FAT32 on our SD
Cards, for our ebook library. So the question became "Would it be a
good idea to format the JBL's internal memory to FAT32, as well?"

At least they should be able to tell us if there is any known issue with
FAT32 or some established requirement that the internal memory
remain FAT16.

Luck;
Ken

Hey Ken,

Thank for the question! I wrote to our technical team and they said their is no way to convert the JBL internal memory to FAT32 however you can convert your SD card to FAT16.

I'm not really sure what all this means, if the SD card is FAT32 and the Device is FAT32 would it make for faster performance? More stable performance?

I'm also picking the tech teams brain so they explain this to me further

Hmm....I begin to wonder if they really like you over there?

You certianlly can format the JBL's internal memory to FAT32, in fact
I just did it while writing this reply.

With my current version of XP Pro I was also offered exFAT as an option
for formatting the JBL's internal flash memory. That has even more
potential benefits, if it is at all compatable.

What I was hoping for would be some explanation for any suggestion
that one or the other should be used. (So in this case; "Why would the
tech team say that the internal flash memory can only be FAT?)

Your tech team isn't looking good by giving you totally bogus information
that any reasonably technically savvy user will know right away is wrong,
especially with no explaination.

PS; Yes FAT32 has a number of benefits over FAT16 especially as regards
to the type of file structure that an eBook library would require. The two
are generally very compatible but I also wonder about the specifics a

Jerry seeing as we are talking about memory space.

How much total internal memory does the JB have. I am talking about the total size - memory for the FW + work space as well as User space.

I know that the user space went from approx 110 megs to 90.3 megs with the new Firmware .35a and up. That means it took back some of the user space. But how big is the total memory installed in the JB and JBL (I assume they have the same amount). is it 1 gig ?

Hey John,

Thanks for the question! I the device has 112MB of internal memory. It says on the description on the Ectaco.com website "jetBook incorporates SD Card expandability (cards available separately) in addition to the built-in 112 MB flash memory so that you can easily store not only a complete library but your favorite music files and pictures too"

Hope this helps!
