I am probably the first owner of Jetbook sold locally here in Singapore having bought it last year.
Since then, I was rather disappointed with it and has not touch it since then.
I recently upgrade to the new firmware and has completed reading my first ebook in Jetbook in pdf. It is a Buddhist Sutra.
I am also starting to read the first DRM ebook I bought last year - nobody here told me I cannot do so. So imagine how disappointed I am then.
I want to say thank you and please continue to upgrade and add value to the Jetbook that we all have.

Patrick

Hi Jerry,

I did not found any information if we can return to an older firmare or where we can be found these old files. I tried to use ner 16.e and It was same bug reported by a friend from Australia. I am quite sure thta it was a wrong path to me to do it, since i do not have DRM files from B&N to be these upgarde so important. How I can return now to old firmware?

I'm not an employee of Ectaco, like Jerry, so I don't have to exercise as
much patience as he does.

I have seen the posts of your friend and yourself and if you can't answer
simple diagnostic questions or manage the update process without panic,
I have little hope that you can make use of this information, but:

Thank you Ken for your help. I will try this tip you give to me. It not could be coincidence or panic since another guy is in Australia and I am in Brazil and at least 3 ou 4 times I tried it with same patience that Jerry does...

:o I just said that it is one product problem of this ebook, since it could not be coincidence that two complete diverse users have exactly same problem. It is not a question of patience, and not only Jerry of Ectaco could have patience with users. We users also needs too much patience to follow all this with so fragile support. It is clear now?

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the feedback with everything, Im not sure i understand the problem, just that you want to flasb back to an older version.

I am assuming you have a JBL because you mention version .16E. If i read correctly your first post says you are starting to read a DRM book. But then later on it appears that maybe you are having a problem.

For me to help please specify.
1) Are you using a jetBook or jetBook Lite?
2) What firmware do you have?
3) What file book are you trying to read?
4) Where did it originate (what website).
5) If a b

1) I have a jetbook lite serial JB-L08631
2) They got with a older version of firmware, maybe V14 or older with some bugs like not allowed audiobooks, or freeze on pdf pages with big size.
3) I do not have problem on this. I am not trying to use for B&N DRM books. I only want a less buggy version.
4) This unity I bought by Amazon
5) Jet book seems start with Logo and it stay all the time at same page untill you shutdown. Only a green light blink once. No boot. No error message.
At first try attempt of upgrade it showed a message that upgrade was not done and that I need to try with a new download. I found that folders in SD still compacted, so I tried again like message information showed, download again, from my PC I made exactly like you explained directly on a fresh SD. And again, again, again..... All the same...

Did you follow the instructions at the MobileRead forum thread I posted
for you earlier? Did you try downloading and updating the 0.15d or the
0.16 firmware, that is linked to there as well?

Did you try using the Diagnostic Menu as Jerry has described to reset to
factory defaults and reflash the NOR memory?

If I were you I would remake an O.16e update SD card with the "Data",
"firmware", and "reflash_nor" folders.

Put that in your JBL and turn it on then use a blunt toothpick to press the
"reset" button in the little hole on the back of the JBL, holding it while the
Logo screen fades away.

Then while holding down both the "Menu" button and the "Font" button
press the on/off button until the screen appears, then let go of the on/off
button only - keep pressing on the Menu and Font buttons until you see
a page with a list of selections. (That is the Diagnostic Menu)

Then you can reset to factory defaults and reflash the NOR.

With that done, press the "reset" button in the back again.

Now you can hold both the right direction button and the on/off button
keep holding both until past the Logo and the update conformation page
appears.

Follow the directions on the screen, but use the "reset" button to turn off
the JBL.

Then you will have it updated and it will take a longer time to start up,
the first time.

Luck;
Ken

P.S. My oldest JBL has JB-L06283 for its SN, and it is running 0.16e just
fine.

Thank you Ken. I made exactly like instructions at the MobileRead forum thread. On my first attempt I tried with 0.16e.

When I found these problems I started to try with 15.e

Did not apear any diagnostic on my jet book.

Yes, all those folders were in update SD card with the "Data",
"firmware", and "reflash_nor" folders.

Part of the problem may be that the developers may have been too clever
by far, in making it difficult for the uninformed user to accidentally gain
access to portions of the utility software that can be misused and cause
more problems. It makes it hard to tell if the hardware is the problem or
if the user just can't get past the deliberately difficult key press sequence.

In any case, if your JBL won't enter the Diagnostic Menu or the Update
boot routine, then the user can't really be expected to get it working
again and Ectaco would need to be the ones to get it working. ( You
might try asking someone with smaller fingers to give it a try first,
though.)

This is apparently a rare enough problem that Ectaco might find it's best
option is to remove the effected units from distribution, as they are
encountered.

This still does not tell me what version you currently have on your device. Please go to settings, then system settings, then firmware version. Actually i just read below and it seems you cant find out because you cant get bast the start up screen.

Ok, again please keep in mind anyone can sell something on Amazon or eBay so ask us first to make sure the person you are buying from is an official reseller.
