I wonder what ECTACO is going to do to combat the new KIndle.
a wifi device at $139.99 and a 3g at 189.999 with 4gb of storage.
I don;t regret my JBL I got a great deal for it ( I got $80 of EBooks for free with purchase) and it Reads my legacy EBooks. But It is tempting.

I bought a Kindle 2 less than 30 days ago and loved it, but the Kindle 3 is vastly improved and I sent back my K2 and ordered the K3. I also have a JBL which I have had since Feb. and love it as well. Right now I see the JBL as a backup device. I think if the JBL will sell at the $99 sweet spot for ereaders, and will work with Overdrive to download library ebooks (something Kindle can't do), and give access to downloading B&N store ePub drm books, it can still fill a niche, and I hope it will. If Ectaco could get the cost of making it down to sell from between $49-$79 it could very well survive the current price wars as an inexpensive second ereader and an ereader for the kids and those on a very tight budget.

I thought of both the K3 and the Nook but
a) JBL is less tied to specific sites, ESPECIALLY now that ADE works with it.
b) I like the reflective LCD better than the eInk. I really don't like the page change flash. Is it still there in the newer eInk screens?
c) I still like the idea of being able to replace the batteries quickly instead of recharging the machine.

I think the JBL screen is better than the Kindle 2 screen as far as contrast. But the new pearl screen in the Kindle 3 looks like it may be better than the JBL screen. Page turns in the Kindle 2 were pretty quick so that it did not bother me, the new Kindle 3 is supposed to have even faster page turns.
Is the ADE update still in beta stage or ready for everyone to update?

PS--I agree with you on the subject of the battery. It was one of the reasons I bought the JBL, I liked the idea of readily available batteries and not having to recharge. Yet the Kindle 3 now has a one month battery charge, which is pretty impressive and makes charging less irritating. I still would like to see Amazon make the battery easier to replace.
