I wanted to surprise my mom with a larger memory on her jetbook, so I got her a 16Giga SD card, but the device does no recognize it. I inserted the card into my comp and it works fine. Why doesn't the jebook recognizes it???

Hey,
Thanks for the question, sorry about the difficulty.
Please let me know the following:
1) What version do you have on your jetBook? (go to main screen, then Settings then system settings then firmware version.)
2) Did you try other SD cards and if so do they work?
3) Do you have any books loaded onto your jetBook hard drive already?
Please let me know and i will do my best to help you out!

16GB for an ebook reader is an extreme overkill, and expensive to boot.
Consider that most ebooks are under 500KB, or 1/2 a MB.
If we say that a GB is 1000MB, that's 2000 ebooks per GB.
A cheap 2GB SD card would = ~4000 ebooks.
So, providing the space to store ~32000 ebooks, may not be worth the
price of the 16GB SD card. It sounds like it would be a great gift, but
as a practical matter, not so much.
Luck;
Ken
P.S. The real situation is even better than implied above;
I have a 2BG SD card with ~8000 ebooks that take up only 1.55GB.

As with others who have had SD problems. I returned one unit because the SD card would lockup the eReader and the new unit was sent me has the same issues; however, the 2 GB card doesn't lock up the eReader, the eReader just doesn't recognize the card. The 2 GB is formatted FAT and the 16 GB card is formatted FAT(32). The literature says that the eReader will accept a 32 GB SD card, but has anyone ever done that? I know all about overkill, but the reason that I bought this jetBook is that it claims to support larger memory cards than the competition. It seem to be a battle to get it to accept a 2 GB card. Any suggestions?

I have come to believe that you need to try various SD cards to see which ones will work in the eReader. I tried a 2 GB and 16 GB card that would not work; but, I had an 8 GB card that would work. Since the cards become costly as you increase in size and that you might have to try numerous cards, I would suggest that you stick to the smaller cards so that you don't have a bunch of expensive cards laying around that won't work.

I've always used Kingston SD cards in the JBL and haven't had any issues at all. I use a 4gb SDHC Kingston card formatted as FAT32 in my JBL and I put a Kingston 2gb SD card in both my son's and dad's JBL. You can get a 4gb Kingston SDHC for under $10 delivered. I personally don't see the need for anything over 4gb since I have thousands of books on it now and haven't come close to reaching the capacity.
