Jerry- are you SURE that if we load the released version of JBL 16 firmware and do not like what we find, that we cannot go back to 15D?? You said "I am told" in the sticky post, which does not sound too definite to me. I really do not want to use my own reader as an Ectaco test machine.
I back-flashed from 15G to 15D when I found the lost page memory bug in 15G. I never heard of firmware that could not be flashed to a prior version.

Hey ronouel,
Thanks for the question. I was told that flashing back to the old version would not be possible, one one of the technicians told me this, not the designers so i am not positive.
In any case, v0.16 is now official so it can be downloaded without risk to your JBL. https://www.ectaco.com/ectaco-posts/list/19980.page If you do download v0.16 and try to flash back and it works let me know, i am curious as well.

I think this IS a question for a senior designer/programmer. Don't you have access to any of these folk? Out of curiosity, where are they- China or HQ in New York?

Hey, yea very true. I just called up to the technician and he said one of the designers said something along the lines of "flashing back is possible for certain versions but not all, also in some versions it was impossible to flash back because the device would not recognize the older version as valid".
To be honest I'm not sure which versions they are talking about as their have been a ton of releases (im guessing about 30% of releases are tests and will not be available to customers). I guess the only way is to try!
The design team is located in the US.
Hope this helps!

OK. You say ver 16 is released and safe. But 15G was not a beta release but an official release and it had a bug that I and others thought was serious. That is why I am concerned about flashing back if I have to, if you get my drift.

Hi Jerry
I would like to share an idea.
Would it be possible for Ectaco to provide someone like yourself with several Jetbooks and Jetbook Lites for the purpose of doing testing yourself? I know in my company I have company provided equipment that is used for quality assurance and user acceptance testing before we let new software go out to the entire staff.
If someone at Ectaco like yourself or a trusted technician could try out this stuff for the customer base, then everyone could find out the answers without having to kill our own little jetbook lites and jetbooks. Such testing could help avoid issues.
Just an idea.

Hey ronouel,
Yea very true, we are taking measures to avoid things like this in the future so obvious bugs like this will hopefully be a rarity from now on. Also people in the beta thread cant find anything so i think its good to go https://www.ectaco.com/ectaco-posts/list/20002.page

Well, I've had no problem flashing to 0.15d-b from 0.16.
If I had encountered a problem I would just flash it over again and the boot/update portion would then match for sure. The programmers have
to deliberately force the update to make such a version check and keep
the code for it from being overwritten by the normal boot/update code.
Luck;
Ken
