I bought the JBL and receieved it a few days ago with pretty much everything I expected-- aside from an issue with the LCD.
After turning the page of a regular txt file in JBL, usually after a few seconds there is a noticeable flicker on the fonts that begins on the left side and works its way to the right. Since the flicker begins on the side with the batteries underneath it, perhaps the issue is with improper grounding?
This has happened with every ebook thus far. I am using fresh eneloop batteries right from the package. Thank you in advance for your help!

I bought two Jetbook Lights, and the SN are within 5 digits. They both show a flicker even with the latest firmware. I'm confused about how to contact tech support. I bought through Newegg. Do I go here and fill in the form??

I am about to send my feedback to the above link, but just in case, here is a video demonstrating the flicker on my JBL:

I am having the exact same problem of the LCD flicker. Mine, to my eyes, is especially noticeable in sunlight.
I purchased my Jetbook at the end of December/early January thru Fictionwise Promotion.
I also have a problem of when I replace the batteries, often my Jetbook will not turn back on. It takes MANY tries. ( Sometimes even having to push the reset button, removing the batteries and re-inserting, pushing directly on the batteries. I'm not sure any of this actually helps, except for persistence. It always comes back on eventually. And Once it turns on after a battery change it continues to work fine until the next battery change, where we start all over again.)

The problem is worse in sunglight and at different angles.
As for turning on after battery replacement, I noticed the same, except if I keep holding my power button until Jetbook text comes up, then immediately release, it boots just fine.
Maybe try this?

If You are using new firmware and the screen is flickering anyway, You have to send the unit to ECTACO for replacement.

Flicker screen in JBL with firmware 0.16e
There is a noticeable flicker in my JBL, but I don't think it is a hardware related problem.
The problem is the same related by other: a flicker more noticeable in the left side of the screen when reading books.
But I noticed that this problem does not appear if I use the screen rotation (reading in landscape mode) neither when I open PDFs that are composed by figures (comic books).
If it was a defective screen the problem shoul be persistent in all kind of viewing.
Maybe a new firmware update is needed.

Hi,
Thanks for the question, that's great feedback i always though the flicker, on some levels, was a hardware problem.
So you have the most current version of JBL firmware and there is a flicker, but when you rotate it and view in same lighting conditions its gone? Also when you view image PDF's under the same lighting conditions no flicker as well?
Which format of book do you notice the flicker with?
Please let me know so i can pass along the info. Thanks!

I can notice this with any text format (txt, epub, pdf with text...). But the same book that appear with flickering I can read without any flicker in landscape mode.
The flicker does not appear viewing pictures or PDFs made only with images (comic books or scanned pages)
Since I put charged batteries last weekend tonight I will put a freshly charged set, to check if it is not related to batteries also.
I don't know if the developers are using the fbcon kernel module, but I think it can receive different values for each orientation or presentation type, leading to an erratic behaviour.
edit: not battery related. Just tested with a fresh set of charged batteries. Still flickering under strong illumination. The flicker seems not due electric grid frequency, it appears under flourescent and incandescent lighting and others related it under sunlight.
