I am disappointed with ECTACO 's policy on accessories.
I have a ER800 with a russian chip in it, I want to travel to Italy so attempted to purchase a MMC Italian language chip which are readily available.
This item is small, about the size of a postage stamp, and not much heavier.
Even allowing for a blister pack this item should fit into a small padded bag.
ECTACO have a policy of charging a $50 shipping charge on accessories this effectively doubles the cost of the item!
This is an outrageous charge and anybody purchasing a unit should be made aware of this policy.
It seems it this is designed to get customers to trade in perfectly usable units on newer models by making accessories uneconomical.
All in all a very dissapointing attitude from a reputable company.

This is not true.
If purchased separately, it costs only $14 to ship accessories within the continental USA & Canada.
Shipping cost of accessories to other countries depends upon destination and is the same as for the handheld dictionary purchase.

Thank you for your reply Val
I live in Australia and I was dealing with the Australian office which I assume has your stock.
The office which I believe is in Sydny about an hours flying time from me.
A postpack would cost about $5 for a small item, and I would not mind paying $14 but $50 would seem unreasonable to most people.
The text from your Australian office:-
Thank you for your email.
Here is the card you need:
http://australia.ectaco.com/products/800MMC-EI/
Yes, it has the same functions as English-Russian card in your device.
Please note, if you order accessories only, the shipping cost of AUD 50 will apply.
I assume your branches carry your stock as so the MMC does not have to come from the USA
look forward to your comments
Ray

Unfortunately, we do not have any stock in Australia, hence the high shipping cost.
Please note that the cost of shipping is indicated in the terms & conditions of our Australian website which you may review online at

I am well aware of your conditions, my point is they need changing!
A novel Idea for companies that dont adequately stock their branches adequately... get the customers to subsidise them.
I am a dissasatisfied customer and will not be recommending your products.
Ill leave your readers to make their own judgement of your company and its after sales service, especially your overseas operations.
