I loaded an .epub file, did not like the formatting, and deleted it. I then found the same book in .txt with better formatting and loaded that, but instead of the book reader displaying the text file as formatted, it RETAINED the formatting of the .epub file that had been removed.
I deleted the .txt file so there were no copies of any type on the book reader, RESET the reader, then reloaded the .txt file. Same results, the .epub formatting is retained, even though the .txt file formatting is correct in Notepad. Where is this .epub formatting being saved and how do I get rid of it?

What sort of formating are you talking about? Where the line breaks are off and the text displays as a jumble of lines? If that is the case then the txt file has been formated with hard returns at the end of some line length. Viewing the txt file in Notepad, do you have word wrap turned on or off? And when you resize the window does the text reformat itself or does the lines stay static?
Chances are the complied version was made with that same txt file and it carries over the formating..
Just my guess..

No, I'm talking about all kinds of formatting that does not reside in the plain text file like larger fonts in titles for example. The epub version also had leading spaces someone put in for formatting. If I download the plain text version and I clean up the text with a macro removing all hard returns (except for new paragraph) for proper wrapping, and have a uniform font size, then resave it as a plain text file, it looks fine in Notepad, Word, and anything else you want to open it with on the COMPUTER. If I then load it onto the book reader, the reader displays it as the epub file that WAS on there before I removed it. I kid you not. Somewhere on the book reader, this formatting has been saved.I've never seen anything like this. Even a firmware reinstall did not help.

I haven't really done much with .epub format books, think I might have one or two..
I've noticed that even with txt files, the software on the JBL will do some built in formatting. Title pages are where it's most noticeable. Book titles that are in all caps seem to appear bigger than the rest of the text. Certain lines of text seem to be indented.. some text seems to be grayed out or lighter than the rest..

Exactly! And where is this formatting coming from? If you think the formatting is flaky, you're stuck with it?
I have a longer thread on this on MobileRead where there are no timeouts and no SIZE limit to dileneating the problem.
http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69124
Filenames, folders, resets, firmware reinstalls- nothing works to fix it.
You would think Ectaco woud not place restrictions on this forum so they could find out what issues need correcting in their own product. You can't always say it in a paragraph. If word gets out that these readers are unmanageable, it can't be too good for business.

I think the formatting is part of the software application that is displaying the text file... This is a dedicated device which main function is to be an basic ereader, not to mention one of the lowest cost devices of that kind on the market. So, yeah if you think the formating is flaky - I guess you live with it or trade it in for some other gizmo that will give you more options as to how it displays text.

Dear Customers
The problem is that Jetbook itself formats all txt and ePub files certain ways. So even if You never used ePub ebook, txt-book would be formatted exactly the same way. Please, check it with the newest Firmware 0.15 which You received yesterday by email and confirm the problem still occurs.
