EJ900 input question

I just purchased the EJ900 and am having trouble figuring out how to enter certain characters in japanese, for example,　が this is the symbol for か　with what look like a english quotation mark in the upper right. There are also many other characters that need these special added marks to make a sound.

And second how do I enter kanji into the dictionary search bar?

While tying Japanese characters, invoke virtual keyboard. Then press ALT on the lower row of virtual keyboard. Additional marks and symbols will be shown on the screen, so You will be able to type が.
If You want to switch input method, You will have to go to Settings and switch target language to Kanji.
