Well I'm a fairly long time Jetbook and JBL user. In the last year I've purchased 4 Jetbooks, and 3 Jetbook Lights.
Frankly if the mini is never going to support popular formats like epub, rtf, or html then I for one will never buy one.

While it has some features that I like, I just can't see giving up that much functionality for them.

Being the "mini" I don't expect it to support all the formats out there.
But in my opinion, Ectaco is shooting itself in the foot with the limited formats.

No matter how you try to slice it, plain text files just don't "look" or read as well as the same file in other formats.

While I am well used to converting formats I can't read (.lit) or would prefer to read in a different format (.pdf) I really can not see me taking the time to convert my entire library to .fb or .txt just so I can use the mini.

Perhaps the Mini would gain much more acceptance in the US Market if
there were firmware to replace the FB2 with ePub support. Perhaps the
old FBReader base of the earlier JBL, if the Adobe is too demanding.

It does sound like the mini has a weak processor. That would explain the longer battery life, and also explain why so few formats are supported. Ultimately a cost vs function trade off.

If management see's a niche for the mini (as is) at that price, then there's no reason for them to add to the cost of the hardware. Sadly I don't think I'm in the target group. It does have many features I would like.

Hey,

Thanks for the feedback with everything guys! Like the JB and JBL we plan to make different firmware update available based on feedback from customers as long as it is within capabilities of the hardware.

Keep the comments coming!

Hi Jerry,

I use only three formats with my JBL - mobi, ePub and rtf.

All of my library is on a single 2 gig SD card.

I don't think that I would be interested in the Mini if I could not use the same SD card in it.

Your video did not indicate that the Mini has the "Jump To..." function that the JBL has. I don't use that very often, but I would think that that is important.

It appears from your video that the Mini includes the same bundle of public domain books that the JBL has. I think that repeat customers would prefer a different selection!

I prefer black, but last year the Astak Pocket Pro got a lot of mileage out of the fact that it was available in a half dozen colors. Since the Mini is also available (somewhere) with a wide color selection, I think that you would sell more in the US if colors other than black and yellow were available.

90 hours on a set of lithium batteries is great, but I expect that most people will use rechargeable NiMH batteries. How lo
