I updated to the release version of .16 last night. I'll let you know whether or not this fixes the problem I was having.

Ok, it is an official version now so it is "safe" meaning your JBL wont explode or anything.

.16 seems to be, overall, more stable. However, what now happens sporadically is that I get stuck at the Books, Pics, Setting screen. I'll select Books and press Ok, and the screen doesn't change. Power cycling the unit fixes the problem until the next time.
The behavior is basically the same as what I was seeing before, except that instead of being able to select a book, open it and then get thrown back to the Books, Pics, Settings screen, now I'm stuck at that screen.

This happening to me as well, only I could not access the books on memory/SD.
I'm thinking the flash memory gets corrupted during a firmware update and causes varying degrees of "issues" with different users. The more updates the more issues randomly appear.

My two week old JBL is also doing the same thing.
It acts like a cache or processor problem - like things get overburdened and just gives up. It acts very much like a PC does when you really put it through its paces with multi-tasking and such.
I have experienced the lock up most often after adding new books to my SD Card and then rapidly opening and closing them when checking format.
It also occurs when I rapidly page forward for maybe 15-20 pages and then try to rapidly page back. This really seems like it is "too much" for the hardware to handle and it often just "gives up" on me.
Things will either just hourglass forever where they are and sometimes I get a totally blank screen with no hourglass and no blinking green light.
I have had to remove the batteries for about 30 seconds in order to get things to re-set and operate properly again. (not an acceptable option for a 2-week old product)
My firmware is:
15d V15
After reading all the negative problems w

Hey Guys,
As always, thanks for the feedback!
So as i am understanding now their is an intermittent problem whereby the jetBook Lite will get stuck at the main screen (with books, pictures and settings). It appears to have no rime or reason however it is possible that the device gets "overloaded" when performing a bunch of operations.
Do i understand this correctly?
I am hoping this is not a hardware issue because it appears across the firmwares, as dougf4 mentioned he has v0.15d, V15.
Please let me know if i am on the right track and i will bring this up to the technician. Thank you guys again!

"So as i am understanding now their is an intermittent problem whereby the jetBook Lite will get stuck at the main screen (with books, pictures and settings)."
Jerry - no, that is not entirely correct in my case.
My JBL will freeze right "in" a book. Again, it seems to happen most often if I have fast forwarded through a dozen or so pages very rapidly. Sometimes when I am attempting to go backwards through pages.
It also will freeze in the book list screen when attempting to open a book.
"however it is possible that the device gets "overloaded" when performing a bunch of operations." - that is definitely a true capture of what I think may be happening with my unit.
Thanks for following up on this Jerry!

Hey Doug,
Ok so in your case it actually happens in a book when you scroll through pages to fast right?
When it freezes is it only for a few seconds or untill on/off or reset?
Is this an intermittent problem or this happens a

"When it freezes is it only for a few seconds or untill on/off or reset?
Always requires a re-set.
Is this an intermittent problem or this happens almost all the time when you make many actions? "
Intermittent, but pretty frequent.
I removed all books and defragged the internal drive. The defrag did show a lot of fragmentation on the drive.
All files are on my SD Card now.
It seems to be better, but I don't have time to beat it up right now to check.

Hey Doug,
Ok, let me know when you put it through a few tests. Maybe i can suggest the defrag to customer with this problem.

I also have the same problem but with a jetbook not a lite. I have had a jetBook for a year and two days ago when I clicked on a new book to open it I was flicked back to the menu screen and the dreaded hour glass appeared. I can still open some books I have read in the past. The same thing happens to the books that came with the jetbook.
I have reset the jetbook, defragged the files, scanned the sd card and the built in memory for bad sectors and errors.
The only thing I did different was transfer files using the USB cable rather than put the sd card in the laptop.
I have not tried a firmware upgrade. I am using version v 0.29b Patch v12.
I really miss my reading fix. I live in New Zealand so I am not to keen to post back to US.

Hi Jerry
The files were on the sd card. The same problem occurred to the files on the sd card and the internal memory.
Upgraded the firmwear and the issues seems to have gone. My reader heart is now happy.
My question now is how do I stop the first line of text after a paragraph break indenting. This indent is not present in the text file or viewed in word. This did not happen with the file when viewed in the earlier version of the firmwear.
I have looked at all the settings and there does not seem to be any setting for this. I have the text already justified to the left.
Could get use to but it is irritating with short sentences.
Thanks
Karen

Hey Karen,
Is this a .TXT file? Or a different?
Does this happen for just one book you have of this format or all?
Please let me know so i can try to help out.

Hi Jerry
It is now happening with all my txt files. They are ANSI encoded as in the past Unicode encoded files would not open. Have not tried with the new firmwarebut will try tonight.
The indenting now happens with the files that came with the jetbook.
